Skincare and aesthetic treatments are often associated with women. However, in recent years, we’ve seen a growing number of men, one of the fastest-growing groups, paying more attention to their skincare and appearance overall. And hence, men are increasingly getting neurotoxins (and fillers) to appear younger, especially in the age of social media and selfies.

Cosmetic injections are different for men and women
One reason for this is that men and women age differently. Men, in general, are more concerned about deep brow furrows, hollowing features, and fine lines caused by repeated sun exposure.

When men seek out cosmetic injections, their aim is not to completely eradicate wrinkles (which are often the aim of many women) but just to make them less pronounced. Men, after all, still want to keep their masculine facial features.

Injectable neurotoxin for men
The expression lines around the brows and eyes can become more pronounced as you age. This can make you look angry or worried even when you feel otherwise.

Injectable neurotoxins such as Botox or Dysport can block the nerve impulses to the muscles (the culprit for the expression lines) from firing, causing these lines to soften. Its effect can take about 2 to 14 days to set in and can last for up to 4 months.

When you come in at Premier Surgical Plastic Surgery in Knoxville, we will assess your needs and skin condition. We will adjust the dosage as needed to preserve your facial features while creating that ‘refreshed’ look that you want.

Are injectables right for you?
You can benefit from neurotoxins such as Botox or Dysport if you want to:

• Minimize deep brow furrows
• Make frown lines less visible
• Smoothen crow’s feet

Facial fillers for men
As you age, facial volume is lost causing some features to look sunken. This loss in facial volume can also make wrinkles look worse.

Dermal fillers are used to restore a youthful look. When administered, this soft, gel-like substance sits just beneath the skin.

Facial fillers are a good option if you want to:

• Minimize the creases around your mouth
• Enhance the contours of your cheeks, chin, and jawline
• Improve the volume of your temple hollowing

Aging is inevitable but looking aged is not. Cosmetic neurotoxins and dermal fillers can make you look more youthful while still maintaining your ‘manly’ features. Mommy Makeover – Premier Plastic Surgery

Many women consider childbirth as one of the most amazing things that have ever happened to their lives. While this is certainly one of life’s amazing miracles, it can change a woman’s body in so many ways.

Our team at Premier Surgical Plastic Surgery in Knoxville understands that many women struggle to get their bodies back to the way they were before and can help you regain the figure you once had.

What’s a Mommy Makeover?
A Mommy Makeover refers to a set of personalized cosmetic procedures, designed to help a woman address some of the common changes in their bodies brought by childbirth, aging, or a combination of both. These procedures, which usually target the breasts, and body, aim at restoring (even improving) your pre-pregnancy shape and appearance.

Procedures in a Mommy Makeover
A Mommy Makeover usually consists of a combination of the following procedures, performed as a single-stage operation.

• Breast augmentation and lift
Breasts naturally sag and lose volume and firmness as a result of aging and gravity. When you add pregnancy and nursing to the mix, changes to your breast can be quite significant.

For those who would like to enhance breast size and shape, we recommend breast augmentation with breast implants or fat transfer.

• Tummy tuck
Having loose skin in the abdominal area is one of the most common trouble spots of many moms. During pregnancy, the body has to adapt to the growing baby; in order for that to occur, the skin and the underlying muscles undergo dramatic stretching.

With tummy tuck surgery or abdominoplasty, the excess skin in the abdomen, as well as the separated muscles, are addressed. This results in a flatter belly that’s more proportionate to one’s body type and frame.

• Liposuction
Some women can easily shed those excess pounds while there are some who struggle to lose those stubborn fats.

Fortunately, there is liposuction, sometimes referred to as “lipo”, that can get rid of stubborn fat deposits in areas such as the abdomen, hips, and buttocks, love handles, arms, back, and thighs.

When is the right time to have a Mommy Makeover?
This is a personal decision and depends largely on the conversation you have with your surgeon. However, there are certain factors that can help determine the ‘right’ time to do it:

• Recovery from childbirth
• The decision to breastfeed (if you are considering breast surgery, you must allow a few months after being done with breastfeeding to provide time for your breasts to stabilize)
• The decision to have more kids (it’s best to wait until you’re finished having children before undergoing any surgical restoration’)
Available support (for the first few weeks after surgery, you will not be allowed to lift anything over 5 to 10 lbs)

Breast implants are used for a cosmetic procedure called breast augmentation. Commonly referred to as a “breast aug” or “boob job,” this procedure aims to improve the size, fullness, projection, and even symmetry of the breasts.

According to FDA, breast implants must only contain either silicone gel or saline water. Either way, both implants have shells made of silicone.

Silicone vs Saline Implants
Between the two, silicone-filled breast implants provide a more natural feeling result. It’s because the thick silicone gel inside the shell provides the firmness that resembles the real body tissue. Silicone breast implants are FDA-approved for augmentation in women age 22 or older.

In a rare case of a rupture, the gel will still hold much of its shape and is less likely to invade other areas of the patient’s body. The patient may not know that she has a rupture, as the silicone gel will not collapse until she experiences pain or notices any changes to her breasts. The only way to find out if there is a ruptured silicone-filled breast implant is through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). If you choose silicone implants, it is recommended to visit your plastic surgeon regularly to make sure the implants are functioning properly.

Saline implants, on the other hand, are filled with sterilized saltwater. Although most implants are filled intra-operatively, one advantage of these implants over the silicone ones is that they can be placed while they’re empty and filled later. Filling these implants later allows the surgeon to control the volume, ensuring symmetry between the breasts.

While they don’t feel as natural as silicone implants, they are relatively inexpensive. If they burst (which is unusual), the saline will just be absorbed and naturally expelled by the body. Saline implants are FDA-approved for augmentation in women age 18 or older.
Although implants can only be either silicone or saline, they can be round vs. anatomic (shaped) and smooth vs. textured. Other variations include:

Structured saline breast implants
These implants are filled with sterile water and have an inner structure that makes them feel more natural.

Gummy bear breast implants
These form-stable implants are becoming popular because they are less likely to deflate and rupture. They are effective in maintaining their shape, even if a tear or damage occurs. It got its name from its durability – thanks to the extra thick silicone gel contained inside them.

If you’ve been considering breast augmentation, it’s important to see an experienced Plastic Surgeon like Dr. David Lo of Premier Surgical Plastic Surgery in Knoxville. He and his team will explain all your breast augmentation options and help you select the implant that is the most appropriate for you and your body.
